Soothing, Hydrating, Skincare Saviours

The wind, rain and cold can be brutal on your skin plus 'tis the season of the sniffles so you're skin is pretty much guaranteed to take a battering as we begin hurtling towards Christmas coldness. Having suffered recently from a horrid bout of tonsillitis, plus a long-term affliction known as permanent 'Rudolph Red Nose' the second September ends, I have been reaching for two products in particular to soothe, hydrate and calm my skin..

Seventeen Phwaorr Paint | Heavy Duty Under Eye Concealer

I suffer from serious dark circles so under-eye concealers are an absolute staple in my make-up routine. I wont lie - the name and the blurb ('The One. The hardcore concealer to wage war on dark circles'- hashtag sold!) is what originally drew me to this as I was perusing the aisles of Boots, and the £5.49 price tag is what convinced me to pick it up. I've previously blogged about my love for the Bobbi Brown creamy concealers and correctors, but at around £18 per pot this might not be in everyone's prince range, so this is a great dupe - but there's a knack to applying it....

Addicted to blowdries | My favourite : blo express blow-dry salon in Chelsea

Hi, I'm Jennifer, I'm 24 and I'm addicted to blowdries. Since having my amazing Tatiana Hair Extensions and seeing how fantabulous my new hair looked properly styled (and knowing, as we all do, what a total pain in the ass washing, blowdrying and styling our own hair is - why does it never look like after a saon trip!? - and now I had triple the amount of hair I usually do) plus the fact the style lasted and I only had to wash it once a week - I was hooked. I found a few wonderful places in Surrey but as I recently moved to London I needed to find a place in Chelsea that wasn't going to charge me £400 for a blowdry (oh believe me, some places around here will try...). I sent out a Twitter plea for anywhere that might be open on Bank Holiday Monday and, as luck would have it, the lovely Jean Queen herself Donna Ida suggested I give Blo a call.....

Workwear Inspiration | Take Four

Another short and sweet 'Workwear Inspiration' post. I definitely like to stick to my basic, simple primary colours (Hello white, black and blue - I see a theme!) but I  have been mixing it up this week with shift dresses, two-in-one dresses, jumper and skirt and trousers and shirt combinations.

L'Oreal Paris Color Riche Collection Privée Limited Edition Lipsticks

Bringing a respite from the bombardment of brights that summer bought, as we wave goodbye to August (and the sun) and hello to September (and the drizzly dark days), L’oreal Paris has introduced a new collection of lipsticks: Collection Privée by Color Riche L’Oreal Paris. The aim of the collection was to create the ‘perfect’ nude lipstick for each and every skin tone created in tandem with the celebrities after whom they are named- and the campaign certainly features an amazing array of fabulous famous faces - Cheryl Cole, Doutzen Kroes, Freida Pinto, Julianne Moore, Eva Longoria and Liya Kebede each worked with L’Oréal Paris colour designer Orrea Light to develop the lipstick shade that best complemented their individual skin tones, and the results make up the Color Riche Collection Privée.  I opted for Doutzen Kroes  pearl pink nude, aptly named ‘hint of pink’…

Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Complex - Holy Grail Eye Cream

I reckon I have tried nearly every eye cream on the market, from the cheap-as-chips to break-the-bank and everything in between and had never really found one that did anything let alone impressed me...until now. I have genuinely, for the firs time, find an eye cream that I not only like but actually love. It all started after a little Estée Lauder splurge which (as a thank-you for spending a silly amount of money) resulted in a cute little freebie gift bag, Nestled among the contents was a little tube of Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Complex and I thought 'Hey, why not?'...

Magical Monochrome - K.I.S.S !

Unfortunately the new job (and the commute to Londres) has left me with little time to take proper DSLR Outfit of the day photos (à la my last outfit post) - but I have been snapping away the outfits I've donned every day. Just a quick glance aaand I think a trend is pretty clear!? Hello Monochrome! What can I say I like to K.I.S.S - you know, Keep it simple stupid! It's always pretty daunting starting a new job let alone for us girls worrying about the dress code (Yes that sparkly jacket IS 'bang on trend' but no one wants to be referred to as 'disco ball' for the next ten years and yes your YSL tributes are gorgeous but the fifth journey down the stairs will leave you wanting to chew off your own feet off) so I decided to bring it right back to basics and stick to some classic wardrobe staples....

The Romantic Fishtailbraid styled at the Elnett LFW Blowdry Bar | Limited Edition Elnett Catwalk Collection

Everyone knows and loves Elnett hairspray. It's a complete classic - a must-have beauty staple.  I currently have two bottles of Elnett hairspray in my bedroom now, and at home our house is littered with cans as me, my mum and my nan are Elnett worshipers. It's the only hairspray that really does what it says on the tin and doesn't leave any sticky or crispy residue behind (I hate that - who wants crisps hair bleugh!) and I wont use any other hairspray on my hair. As an Elnett enthusiast, I was lucky enough to be invited alomng to the Elnett #ElnettGlam blowdry bar at London Fashion Week (everyone knows I'm totally addicted to blowdries!) to have my hair styled and to have a little peek at the Limited Edition Elnett Catwalk Collection. There were three signature styles to chose from at the Blowdry Bar ('The wavy side hairstyle', 'The haute couture top know' and the 'Romantic fishtail braid') and I went for a slightly different look than usual  and opted for the 'romantic fishtail braid'...

Burger And Lobster Mayfair | Plus Special Guest...

On Thursday night I finally paid a visit to the infamous 'Burger and Lobster'.Thursday is a busy night in London (referred to as 'Thirsty Thursday' - if you're knobhead.) so upon my arrival after work at about 6:45 the place was already packed and I had to squeeze my way through the hustle and bustle to the bar to meet my two girlfriends (yes, of course I was late). Although super busy, it wasn't uncomfortable, the atmosphere was great and we were able to take a seat at the bar and have a few drinks and a chat whilst waiting for our table...

Illamasqua pencils | Medium pencil in 'Vow' and Lip colouring pencil in 'Media'

I am completely obsessed with Illamasqua pencils. I used the Illamasqua medium pencil in 'elate' for my Bridesmaid makeup and love it for special occasions and nights out. Illamasqua's medium pencil in 'Vow' is a cool apricot yellow which is absolutely perfect to swipe along the waterline to perk up your peepers and to dash under brows or on cheekbones for a pop of highlight. Due to it's off-white, pale yellow finish it gives a more subtle look, perfect for everyday wear, awakening and brightening the eye area without looking harsh. The Illamasqua lip colouring pencil in 'Media' is the perfect Autumnal shade, a step away from the pastel-pinks of summertime but just shy of a full blown red-lip this colour is the perfect in-between 'vintage pink shade'...

Skincare Series | SkinCeuticals Antioxidant Facial at Paul Edmonds Knightsbridge

Two weeks ago I enjoyed one of the most pampering, indulgent, relaxing facials(*) I have ever experienced at the delightful Paul Edmonds Salon on Brompton Road, Knightsbridge. Almost six weeks into my new job and after deciding to embark on a fitness kick, the day of my facial saw me in the office at 8:45am, undertaking an hour of personal training in my lunch break followed immediately after by trialing the Bear Grylls Epic workout class, back in the office until just after 6, then running to be on time for my facial at 6:15. So when this bundle of stress, aching-all-over, rocked up ready for my facial I was delighted that my facialist Saynab knew instantly that I was 'very very tense!' and so made it her MISSION to relax me, as well as sort out my skin......

House Of Holland | Nailed by Elegant Touch Range

On Saturday night I popped over to the Fashion Monitor Style Lounge at The Mayfair Hotel and after grabbing a much needed glass of white wine and chatting to the lovely Fashion Monitor and Beauty Works girlies was suddenly drawn towards the nail table, as the various array of brightly coloured new House of Holland and Elegant Touch designs caught my eye and I ran over to investigate further. Having seen the hype surrounding these babies it was great fun to join the guests ooh-ing and aah-ing over the totally unique, bold patterns, and the endless amusement over the fact the 'face ache' nails set has googly eyes on the nails - which actually move - oh the novelty! I opted for the monochrome-with-a-textured-twist 'Polka-dot-it' and LOVE them! I have never received so many comments on my nails from total strangers - backstage at Eugene Lin even the models were commenting on them and one of the Toni&Guy style team asked if they could snap a picture they were so enamoured by my mani- felt like a bit of a celeb

Backstage at Eugene Lin LFW SS14

Today I went backstage with Toni and Guy and Label M at the Eugene Lin SS14 show. Richard Mannah led the Toni and Guy team and the concept for the hair was a sleek combination of wet and dry; to mirror the juxtaposing textures of the collection. Inspiration for the overall look was drawn from the fabled Valkyries of Norse mythology, the legend claims if you capture a Valykrie warrior whilst she is bathing in the river she will grant you a wish,so the models hair was slicked back away from the face into a half- ponytail using Label M Volume Mousse, coated with copious amounts of Label M Gel and sprayed sufficiently with Label M holding gloss through the top sections to create a glossy, shiny, wet look to create the illusion of emerging from the river. The makeup by The Body Shop was a natural finish, dewy base, contoured cheekbones, muted lips with heavy white shimmer in the inner corner of the eyes combined with a flash of pink and a sweep of mascara. My aim was to capture exactly what goes on backstage, so I really hope you get a feel of what goes into creating a Catwalk show - the extreme attention to detail, the last-minute finishing touches - five stylists attending to one model!! - just the sheer amount of effort required from everyone involved.

London Fashion Week SS14 | What I Wore

So today was my first day at LFW. My first stop of the day was heading backstage at Ashley Isham with Toni and Guy and Label M. It. was. AWESOME! I've never been backstage before and I absolutely adored seeing the whole process that goes into actually putting together a Catwalk show. It was such a thrill to be part of the buzz and the hubbub of backstage and I'm so grateful for Toni and Guy for letting me experience it! I'm off backstage with T&G again tomorrow for Eugene Lin and can't wait. This post is just a quick glimpse into what I opted to don for (my) day one (I know it's technically day two but my Friday was spent sat at my desk!) at London Fashion Week SS14....

Making the most of the scorching weather, the boy and I made the most of the sunny weekend with a casual BBQ with friends on Saturday followed by a trip to Mayfield Lavender Farm on Sunday (followed by yet another BBQ!). If you live around Surrey then Mayfield Lavender Farm is definitely worth a visit, it's a breath-taking sight with purple fields as far as the eye can see with fresh lavender bunches, lavender ice cream, cakes and a good old BBQ all on offer. There is also a photography competition with £200 going to the best photo taken at the farm this summer so if you're a budding photographer head on down there and join the dozens of snap-happy visitors.

'Are you wearing..two dresses? What..I don't..IS it two dresses..Let me touch it.. No..I just don't understand this at all..' - this outburst was followed by me patiently explaining the 'Peplum' trend to my friend James and reassuring him that no, no I was not wearing two dresses it was, in fact, just the style of the dress and that was how it was supposed to look ('Are you sure?' 'Yes. Shut up.') Anyway, a few weeks ago we all put on our glad-est rags and headed off to Royal Ascot for the day. My three top tips for attending Ascot are..

How To: Cheat A Blow Dry | Six Simple Steps To Give Kate Middleton A Run For Her Money by Sandy of absolutebeaut.com

I've made no secret of my addiction to blowdries, but I've always struggled to achieve that salon-look at home - enter Sandy from absolutebeaut.com ! Not only does Sandy run one of my new favourite blogs  (her nail art is insane!) but she has hair to die for and so I am handing over TBG to Sandy for todays post...

Nothing puts a spring in my step quite like a fresh blow dry. Cue a few Kate Middleton impressions and LOTS of Pantene worthy hair-swishing. A good blow dry can turn a bad day into an amazing day. But apparently, having a personal hair stylist on hand (with bionic blow dry arms that never get achey) isn't a very realistic aim for somebody that isn't actually royalty. So here’s a minimal effort method to recreate the blow dry look yourself.

Viva Espagne! TBG is on Holiday | Blogging from The Riviera Del Sol

Hola! AAAAAAND that is about the extent of my Spanish...(except for una copa de vino blanco and, of course, grassy-ass). I am currently in Sunny Spain, sipping cocktails, enjoying the sunshine, mourning the loss of my iPhone (and subsequent Instagram withdrawal - IS EVERYONE STILL ARTFULLY AND COMPLETELY UNNECESSARILY AND RANDOMLY ADDING CANDLES/PERSONALISED NOTEBOOKS/VASES OF FLOWERS ETC IN THE BACKGROUND OF their PHOTOS!!? OH HOW I MISS THE CANDLES AND FLOWERS AND NOTEBOOKS. AND THE COFFEE CUPS- OH THE COFFE CUPS!) and becoming utterly bemused and bewildered as to how and why my boyfriend seemingly becomes more tanned and toned by the second, whilst I continue my descent into a pink and sweaty (literal) 'hot' mess. 'You look a bit pink Jen, I think you should maybe use a higher factor?' 'NO I DON'T LOOK PINK. IT'S DEFINITELY NOT PINK AND I DEFINITELY DON'T NEED A HIGHER FACTOR. SHUT UP. IT WILL GO BROWN. ANYWAY IT'S DEFINITELY NOT PINK AND IT'S DEFINITELY NOT STARTING TO GET QUITE PAINFUL.. IT'S...I'M..IT WILL...SHUT UP.' (It was pink. It's not turned brown. It is, actually, quite painful. I should have worn a higher factor). ANYWAY, I digress, I will be whacking up a few blog posts about some cheeky Duty Free purchases (yes, I went to Chanel), the lotions and potions I have been using out here and the outfits - including the most amazing bag and sandals from Zara and a ridiculously over the top hat that makes me feel like I should be in Cannes (but in all honesty probably just makes me look like a bit of a dick).

Ardell Wispies | eBay Cheap False Eyelashes | Dramatic, Comfortable, Easy To Apply False Lashes

As you can see me and the brightness settings on my DSLR don't really get on very well. I tried to take a decent photo in various lights using various settings (and apparently various try-hard poses) before my anniversary dinner at Duck And Waffle last Friday night but none really came out true-to-life (I don't glow like that photo on the left -sadly - and I really, really, really hope I wasn't as orange as I look in the ones on the right...) BUT what you can clearly see is the absolutely fabulous false lashes (and my brilliant bespoke 3D brows Tracie Giles). I picked these bad boys up in a massive eBay haul for only £3.69 and absolutely adore them. They are SO easy to apply as the band is invisible, bendy and light making it super easy to work with and once on they feel completely weightless. I think they look striking and dramatic without being completely over the top....

STRIP Wax Bar and Boutique | The Ultimate Bikini Wax

Last Friday I scooted over to the Strip Wax Bar & Boutique and had THE most amazing Brazilian wax in their signature, infamous - and bloody amazing - chocolate room, complete with the Sex And The City film playing in the background (specifically the bit where Miranda and Steve meet on the bridge GAAAAHHHHHHH so emosh!!). 'Is it real chocolate' I asked eagerly, and now I realise, stupidly. No, is the answer, no, they do not actually wax you with melted chocolate (forgive me, it had been a long week...). It is actually chocolate-hazelnut scented essential oil infused, skin hydrating hot wax and it is this combined with the Strip Wax Bar blend of essential oils used pre and post wax and the skill of the Strip therapists which result in a pain-free, fuzz-free, seriously smooth bikini wax. No pain, bumps, redness, soreness or 'plucked chicken' effect (ewww I know - I'm sorry for the mental image - but it really does sum up the aftermath of some bikini waxes!) here. There's no fannying around (get it? get it?) with paper pants here ladies, this is a knickers-off-knees-to-chest-affair so brace yourself for the awkwardness of discussing London housing prices with your lady bits on full display - but oh, it's so worth it...

Pro Volume Extension Professional Hair Extensions by Louise Bailey at FOUR London | Before and After Photos and Review

I've been debating hair extensions for months now, but after dabbling with them about five years ago (with disastrous results) and dreading ending up with wig-like-locks, I've been biding my time, waiting, researching, hoping to find the best of the best. My quest for the best ultimately led me to London's hair extension guru Louise Bailey and her brand Extension Professional. In awe of the before and after photos and the rave reviews I set my heart upon seeing Louise and yesterday I excitedly made my way to FOUR London in the heart of Mayfair for a set of Pro Volume Extension Professional hair extensions and, as you can see, the results are phenomenal. Louise really understood my desire for natural, healthy expensive-looking hair as it's the exact 'look' she specialises in ('Sloaney' not 'TOWIE' style!) and she is the genius behind Caroline Flack's (who I actually ended up sat next to at the Salon as Louise put the finishing touches on her new extensions before starting mine!) Ellie Goulding's and Yasmin Le Bon's hair. The pro volume extensions are so subtle and expertly applied it's achieved a breath-taking (I was literally open-mouthed when we first put together and looked at the before/after photos) yet totally undetectable, flawless transformation. I cannot stop staring at my hair, it looks like I've had a million dollar celebrity red carpet blow dry and I'm officially in love....

Bank Holiday Weekend Adventures | Things to do in Surrey

The boy and I took full advantage of the glorious Bank Holiday Weekend, beetling around with the windows down as we decided to sample a variety of the delights that Surrey in the Sunshine has to offer. First on our agenda was a sleepy Sunday spent idly wandering up and down the riverbanks of Kingston whilst demolishing out 99 Flake Ice Creams topped off by my very first -and certainly not my last - visit to Byron Burger (I opted for the Byron Burger and it was ah-may-zing, the boy had a skinny Roquefort and had the sense to chose the home made skin-on chips which were infinitely more delicious than mine so naturally I ended up eating half of his!).

Monday's festivities started with a stroll through the beautiful Nonsuch Park in search of home made mint chocolate chip ice cream....

Wam Bam Show and Supper Club at Café de Paris | Hen Party

Earlier this Month I had the absolute honour of attending one of my best friends (and my very first ever!) Hen Do's at the oh-so-decadent Café de Paris, where we enjoyed the 'Wam Bam' show and Supper Club - a divine three course champagne meal accompanied by the the most fabulous, over the top, decadent and exciting Burlesque Show I've ever seen - and I've been to The Moulin Rouge! Once the delicious food and god-knows-how-much Champagne and wine had been polished off, the supper tables were whisked away, revealing a dance floor for us to dance the night away on (oh and we did, we really, really did- and then I went to McDonalds and had twenty chicken nuggets, chips and a cheeseburger - keeping it classy as always). I would highly, highly recommend Wam Bam for a Hen Do or Birthday as it's completely unique and a great evening of entertainment. I opted for my new favourite party dress, the TFNC Fit & Flare Plunge V Neck Dress (£40 - yes you can wear a bra underneath - the Wonderbra Ultimate Strapless £26 is your friend) MAC 36 Lashes (£10 night-time only lashes ladies-they are HUGE) and Lord&Berry Jumbo lipstick pencil in Mandarin (£8* such a vibrant, long-lasting, creamy lip colour - I need one in every shade!).
